Day three came around and I really liked my initial table. A guy to my right started with just 10 big blinds at 1,500/3,000 but took a very aggressive line and got up to 55k. He threebet all in and I re-shoved my A-Q. He flipped his A-K and I didn’t improve. Oops.

Then I get moved tables again. Annette Obrestad and Jamie Burland (who has now managed to cash at EPT London three times in a row – well done that man!) are among the pros at the table as well as some hot shot online grinders who just love to three and fourbet. Things are getting tricky.

Then I get myself into trouble. 6-4 offsuit on the big blind Annette raises small and an additional caller tempts me into the pot. The flop comes 4-3-3. I check, Annette continuation bets and I call. We see the turn heads up and it’s an offsuit 6 giving me a dodgy two pair.

I check and she checks behind. The turn is the J and I check. She bets 25k which is about half my stack. I call, figuring I’ve looked quite weak in the hand and she might just be on a bluff but she flips Q-Q. All of a sudden I’m on x9 the BB and fast approaching the bubble. Remind me again why I called a raise vs Annette Obrestad out of position with 6-4 off?

It doesn’t take me too long to get my stack improving again. I ship A-Q vs a raise and a call. My opponent makes the call with 8 7. The board comes down A K Q. Did I mention I love a sweat? The turn is the J giving him outs for a split, but the river is another K awarding me the bloated pot to get me healthy again.

All of a sudden there are 97 players left with 96 getting paid. This bubble lasted over an hour!

Two players had micro stacks and did everything they could to outlast one another. Eventually the big blind forced one of them all in and he hit the rail. I managed to hold my own on the bubble and take down some pots here and there, but with quickly escalating blinds things are starting to get tough.

Once the bubble bursts me and Jamie Burland get moved to the same new table. I find myself on 12bbs and make the shove with 10 9. Q-Q wakes up and calls me. The flop is a rather ugly 7-3-2 all spades and he had the Q. The turn brings some hope to the situation with the 8 but the river 7 while giving me 4 to the straight flush that isn’t much good with no more cards to come. I hit the rail in 73rd place, shake hands and wander off to collect my prize money.

All in all I’m very happy with my performance. I made one or two mistakes, but against such a tough field and concentrating for so many hours three days on end that’s bound to happen. I made some good bluffs this event, some cracking value bets and smelt out some traps from my opponents. I didn’t let it get to me when things didn’t go my way and my stack got hurt, I just picked myself up and did what I had to do to make a deep run.

European Poker Tour Season 7

The European Poker Tour (EPT) and the United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT) have joined forces once again, this time around in London.

The UKIPT began its last stop in 2014 at the Hippodrome Casino on Oct. 7 with a huge £150+£15 super satellite to UKIPT London Main Event.

Both Day 1 starting flights of the UKIPT Main Event are now in the books with 200 players surviving from the initial 1,089 entrants that either ponied up the £700+£70 entry fee or qualified via one of the many satellites that ran on the UKIPT's online partner PokerStars.

United Kingdom's Eric Theissen has a slight chip lead heading into Day 2 action on Friday with 293,200 chips. Fellow countryman Hamid Toghyan wasn't too far behind to start the day in second place with 279,000 chips.
